Abbey Green Competition

Masterplan competition in Barking, London

August 2009

Currently an under-utilised green area on the periphery of Barking, the proposals aim to develop Abbey Green into a green hub between the town centre and the river Roding.

A series of hedges, mounds and mature trees aim to strengthen the park’s boundaries and entrances. Existing diagonal paths are to be reinforced. A winding circular promenade is to link various spaces within the park.

New programmed space such as a museum pavilion, an open air theatre, a cafe, a new playground and sport facilities, and a walled garden will provide much-needed amenities in this deprived part of London.
